Our internship positions are now full for the 2013 farming season. Please contact us for information about future internship opportunities.
reroot organic farm is a 70 acre diversified farm with a strong focus on market gardening, providing certified organic vegetables, fruits, herbs and cut flowers for 100 CSA shareholders, 2 weekly farmers’ markets and on-farm sales. 2013 will be reroot’s 7th growing season, our 3rd season on our own land located in Wellington County, 1-hour North of Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo.
While the focus of the internship will be on market gardening, interns will also have hands-on experience beekeeping, working with our flock of free-range laying hens, and raising pastured chickens, pigs, and cattle for meat.
Interns will benefit from a very hands-on learning environment, working alongside reroot farmer Caitlin Hall, and participating in both informal and formal educational opportunities. Interns will benefit from bi-weekly structured education days including CRAFT days, field trips, and in-depth workshops. Weekly field walks and independent learning opportunities will round out our approach to education.
Skills to be learned include:
Transplanting & direct-seeding
Harvesting & post-harvest handling
Small-scale animal husbandry
We’re looking for inquisitive, versatile, hard-working and self-motivated individuals who are interested in a diversified farm experience. We are friendly, flexible and open to accommodating different learning desires. For the right applicant we're also open to an incubator style internship where we provide you with the space, equipment and time to trial a small farm business on our farm while participating part-time in our internship program. We have the equipment and land to support a small-scale poultry operation, small apiary, cut-flower or herb garden and more. Get in touch if you have an idea, and we'd be happy to explore if it might be a fit for our farm.
In addition to educational experiences, interns will receive room & board, a weekly stipend, and lots of great food. Other then a desire to learn and get your hands dirty, we're especially excited about chatting with people who have a driver's license and are willing and able to spend the full season with us (May 1- Oct 1) although we can be flexible on these points as well for the right applicant.
To apply, please send an e-mail detailing your interest in working on our farm along with a resume to email@example.com. We accept applications year-round but aim to fill our internship positions in January-February.
